Allogeneic bone marrow transplantation: A procedure in which a patient receives bone marrow from a compatible, (HLA 6/6 match best) though not genetically identical, donor. One of the problem associated with this type of transplant is the donated marrows t-cells attack the host body, this is called Graft - Versus - Host Disease (GVHD), this usually develops within days to years after transplant.

Autologous bone marrow transplantation: A procedure in which bone marrow that had been removed from a patient is given back to that patient.

Peripheral Blood Stem Cells: A method of replacing blood-forming cells destroyed by cancer treatment. Certain cells (stem cells) in the blood that are similar to those in bone marrow are removed from the patient's blood before treatment. The cells are given back to the patient after treatment.

Syngeneic bone marrow transplantation: Grafting between two genetically identical individuals (identical twins). The best type of transplant.
